Melati Suryodarmo

WELCOME to a large-scale performance by Indonesian artist Melati Suryodarmo.

Ongoing performance. Drop-in – visitors may enter and leave at any time during opening hours. You don’t need to arrive when it opens, but any time before the last admission.

Opening hours: Thu – Sat 18:00–21:00 (last admission 20:15). Doors open at 18:00. Sun 15:00–18:00 (last admission 17:15). Doors open at 15:00.

Melati Suryodarmo is one of Indonesia’s foremost performance artists, renowned for her powerful, long-duration works where the body serves as both medium and expression. Her practice spans performance, choreography, photography, and video, engaging with themes of endurance, displacement, memory, and transformation.

She has exhibited internationally, including at Kiasma in Helsinki, MMCA in Seoul, the National Art Center in Tokyo, Bonnefanten Museum in Maastricht, and QAGOMA in Brisbane. Suryodarmo founded Studio Plesungan in Solo and served as Artistic Director of the Jakarta Biennale in 2017. Since 2022, she has led the cultural program Indonesia Bertutur. She is currently featured in the Thailand Biennale in Phuket.

Her collaboration with Lilith Performance Studio began in 2007 with Perception of Patterns in Timeless Influence. She returned with I Love You (2009), EXERGIE – butter dance (2010), and Transaction of Hollows (2016).
