There’s a peculiar kind of power in music that doesn’t move forward so much as it expands. Drone music doesn’t ask you to follow—it asks you to surrender. Austin’s Water Damage specialize in that surrender. Describing themselves with the mantra “Maximal Repetition Minimal Deviation,” they conjure thick slabs of sound that stretch across full reels of tape, unfolding like endless terrain. Their music isn’t built around structure or song but around immersion: wave after wave of fuzz, tone, and feedback. It’s a collective effort, drawing on members from projects like Spray Paint, USA/Mexico, Swans, and Thor & Friends—musicians with a shared reverence for noise, discipline, and ecstatic collapse.

What sets Water Damage apart is how alive their drones feel. The surface isn’t static—it bristles with interference, skids of percussion, distant squalls, and unnamable textures that slide in and out of focus. There’s forward motion, but no clear destination. The end only comes when the tape runs out and the whole system collapses in on itself.
