We are incredibly grateful to gather, learn, and grow together at Afia Weekend special—an event that celebrates South African and other diasporic dance and music. As a participant of the festival, you are entering the space not just as a dancer, but as a deeply intentional guest. Due to most participants at our festival being white and because we are operating within a context that acknowledges the heavy, ongoing trauma of Apartheid (that was in South Africa and still occurs in the world in other places) and white supremacy, we must move with self-awareness and active humility. This document is not a formality; it is a sacred agreement. It exists to protect our South African and BiPOC guests, team and participants, and the integrity of the knowledge being shared with us. We ask you to read these guidelines not as restrictions, but as the essential groundwork required to cultivate a safe, respectful, and genuinely transformative experience for everyone involved.
