THE FAMILY MEN - LIVE SNÖVIT 6/11-26
The Family Men (Gothenburg, Sweden) refuse easy categorisation. Underpinned by mangled electronics and tape loops, savage guitars and a ruthless vocal delivery, the band are restless by design and singularly raw.
What started as a two-piece garage-punk band has mutated into something muscular, volatile and totally their own. Founders Gustav Danielsbacka and Nils Lindgren bonded as kids over a shared love of Slipknot’s first album, writing together long before the band took its current shape. The addition of Vidar Nilsson and Valdemar Wickelgren Löthman rounded the group to a four-piece, and a shift toward electronics set them on the path to their debut album, No Sound Forever (Harmful Records, 2024). Their evolution continues with the release of Co/de/termination (out now via Welfare Sounds). Where their debut folded electronics into songs already written, Co/de/termination was built outward from the synths and samplers themselves. The result channels the corrosive pulse of industrial rock, a kind of brutalist psychedelia, and a reverence for meticulous song-craft into their most deliberate and activating work to date.
Thematically, Co/de/termination holds a timely preoccupation with bodies breaking down under systems they can't control - the human fusing with machine, dependency loops that feed on themselves, minds dissolving under sedation or surveillance. Here, collapse is never quite an ending, rather it plays out as metamorphosis: a self dissolved, only to be reconstituted on the other side as something new and more resilient. It's bleak territory, but the band moves through it with a strange, confronting fascination, moulding it into a full-body experience.
Live, The Family Men have earned a reputation as must-see act. Feverish VHS projections, walls of guitar feedback, and a matchless ferocity have carried them well beyond Gothenburg's underground and out across Europe. They have played Trans Musicales (France), Eurosonic (Netherlands), Fusion Festival (Germany) and Resurrection Fest (Spain), alongside a steady stream of touring throughout 2026.
The Family Men describe their music as 'Total Harmful Sound', a nod to Danielsbacka and Nilsson's former label, and a fitting summary of a project that leaves nothing in reserve.
