When Per Persson left Traste Lindén's Quintet at the end of the 1980s, he embarked on a journey that would establish him as one of Sweden's most skilled songwriters. The band he created, Perssons Pack, debuted in 1989 with the album Kärlek och dynamit. However, they became most widely known to the general public for their 1991 hit Tusen dagar härifrån, where a young Jakob Hellman appears on vocals and also recorded under his own name. Over the years, Per Persson has recorded with Engmans Kapell, Sofia Karlsson, and in 2020, he appeared on Så mycket bättre, performing Tusen dagar härifrån together with Plura in front of an audience that included Jakob Hellman among others.

When Perssons Pack concluded with a sold-out concert at Nalen in 2014, Persson continued under his own name. However, it didn't take long before the desire to play in a band resurfaced, and thus Per Persson & Nya Packet was born.

In autumn 2024, Per Persson was featured in TV4’s popular show Så mycket bättre and simultaneously went on a highly anticipated nationwide tour across Sweden with his band Nya Packet, which also includes Niclas Frisk for the first time since Perssons Pack disbanded in 2014.
