During the annual Taube Week, his inimitable artistry is celebrated – the songs, the poems, the stories, and the joy of life that still shapes the soul of Swedish culture. On 11 March, and on Evert Taube’s birthday, 12 March, the grand Taube Day Concert is held. This year’s concert is titled Ellinor! Ellinor! Ellinor! – a vessel, a daughter, a queen.
Welcome to a star-studded evening where Lisa Nilsson, Theodor Jensen, Augustifamiljen and The Gothenburg Combo take the stage and, together with other brilliant artists, pay tribute to Evert Taube.
The performance is a musical and scenic odyssey in two acts, where the name Ellinor is woven throughout Taube’s entire creative output – from his first song “Ellinors vals” (1917), in which Ellinor is a Bohuslän sailing vessel, via “På kryss med Ellinor”, “Brevet från Lillan” and “Ellinor dansar”, to the prose book “Vallfart till Trubadurien och Toscana”, where Taube honours Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine – the symbol of the golden age of love and troubadours.
“To interpret Taube in this context feels like stepping into a living legacy. His music is both Swedish and universal, simple and sophisticated at the same time. And to do it on his birthday – it feels like a musical declaration of love,” says Lisa Nilsson.
