The nanny is waiting for a decision that will affect her entire future. She has been locked away, against her will, because of the book she has published, which now threatens to ruin the rest of her life. Her dream and life’s work are at risk of being shattered - but she still has a chance for vindication.
Nanny Palmkvist was born on August 18, 1862, outside Svalöv. She trained as a public school teacher, which became her profession for three decades, while in her spare time she wrote novels, political writings, and humorous articles. She helped start a dozen associations and activities in Helsingborg, where she also ran the guesthouse and reading salon Tysta Marie.
The audience gets to follow Nanny's life during the performance, her struggle for the rights of women and children to education and to have their voices heard, as well as her work for the reform of school and society. Frida Bergh portrays Nanny's stubborn struggle to implement changes that were once unthinkable for an ordinary farm girl from the early 20th century. Towards the end of her life, she pays a high price for her uncompromising pursuit. In her loneliest moments, she must come to terms with herself about which path she will ultimately choose.
The actress and musical artist Frida Bergh is known from, among others, Kristina from Duvemåla, Nästan inget on SVT, as well as from a number of roles at Uppsala City Theater, Riksteatern, and China Theater.
The director and screenwriter Annika Kofoed is a permanently employed actress at Helsingborg City Theater but has, over the past 10 years, directed major productions, often featuring musical elements.
