On a rooftop in Tel Aviv at night, the Oscar-winning directors of No Other Land meet Israeli soldiers who reveal the systematic killing of Palestinian civilians in Gaza.
Directors Rachel Szor and Yuval Abraham on the film: We created this film out of a sense of duty to use our position as Israelis to examine the systems behind the mass killing of Palestinian civilians for which our country bears responsibility. During the three years we worked on the film, we asked ourselves the same questions that our grandparents' generation—and people throughout the 20th century—have asked: How can one group of people allow another group to be completely dehumanized? What do the inner workings of such a system look like?
Many of the revelations highlighted in the film were published almost immediately—as we learned of them in the months following the October 7 attacks—by The Guardian (one of the film's producers) in collaboration with +972 Magazine and Local Call. Unlike journalism, the film gives us the opportunity to explore something deeper: not only the words actually spoken but also those left unsaid—the silence. It is up to all of us to break that silence.
