For over a decade, Nicole Sabouné has been one of Sweden’s foremost custodians of post-punk’s legacy. But her artistry has never been about nostalgia. Ever since her debut with “Must Exist” (2014), her majestic voice and almost indomitable artistic resolve have shaped music that both honours its predecessors and refuses to stand still. From the acclaimed “Miman” (2015) to “Kismet” (2023), her universe has continued to expand, and interest ahead of the forthcoming album has reached far beyond Sweden’s borders. The singles have attracted attention from The Needle Drop and The Line of Best Fit, among others, while Fredrik Strage and Jan Gradvall are among those who have praised her at home.
On her new album “ANA أان”, Nicole Sabouné turns her gaze towards her own roots. After growing up with questions of identity and belonging, she travelled to Lebanon for the first time, a journey that would change how she saw herself. The album title means “I” in Arabic, and its songs bring rootlessness and inherited silence into contact with a growing sense of belonging. Musically, the album moves between the grand and the intimate, with a pulsating drive meeting organic elements and Nicole’s expressive voice, while influences from the Middle East intertwine with post-punk and alternative pop. The result is a deeply personal album about identity, heritage and belonging, and about daring to approach your roots to ultimately find a home within yourself. In early 2027, Nicole Sabouné takes her new music on tour.
