In the near future, The Running Man is the highest-rated show on TV - a deadly competition where contestants, known as "runners", must survive 30 days while being hunted by professional killers. Everything that happens is broadcast live to a bloodthirsty audience, and every day the prize pool increases.

In a desperate attempt to save the life of his sick daughter, poor Ben Richards (Glen Powell) is convinced by the show's charming but ruthless producer, Dan Killian (Josh Brolin), to join the competition as a last resort. But Ben's defiance, instincts, and courage make him an unexpected audience favorite - and a threat to the entire system. As the ratings increase, so does the danger, and Ben must outwit not only the "hunters", but also a nation that is addicted to seeing him fall.
