A Place Called Inkonst is a residency, a concert and a recording process unfolding on the dancefloor at Inkonst.
During the week leading up to the concert, Dorisburg and Sebastian Mullaert move into the room to listen, explore, improvise, record and allow the space itself to become an active part of the creation. The sound system, the floor, the lights, the empty club, their own experiences from the space and the history of the room are not treated as a stage, but as material.
On Friday 18 September, the process opens to an audience. What has been shaped during the week continues in real time, with conscious, listening and interacting humans in the room. The audience is not only receiving the music, but becomes part of the living field in which the music continues to take shape. Over approximately two hours, a live recording is created where music, presence, movement and the energy of the audience are allowed to affect one another directly.
A Place Called explores what happens when creation is not separated from reception. When the audience is not simply observing, but becomes part of the field in which the music appears.
For this first episode at Inkonst, the project also explores the idea of shared authorship. When the recording from the evening is later released, the intention is that those who were present will be able to become co creators by receiving a share of the work’s copyright.
Listen closely. You are part of it. Allow yourself to act. Explore with us.
The room is not empty. It is waiting…
