Name an instrument that has come to symbolise the music of the past century more than any other. Did you think of the guitar? The instrument that, together with a cut-off bottleneck, gave birth to the blues; that made Elvis the King of Rock ’n’ Roll; that was electrified and gave rise to everything from punk and symphonic rock to black metal.

This concert with Finn Loxbo and Francesco Palmieri offers an opportunity to explore the guitar from different angles – acoustic versus electric, through improvisation and composed works.

Finn Loxbo first made a name for himself as a singer-songwriter, but is now exploring the shadowy sides of the steel-string guitar through precise, often quiet improvisations. He is the founder of the ensemble Kommun and also performs with, among others, Skogen and Anna Högberg Extended Attack. Francesco Palmieri’s part of the programme features three works in which the electric guitar encounters foreign objects made of metal, glass and stone. Instead of a conventional amplifier, the guitar sounds through a specially built speaker system designed to bridge the gap between the electric and the acoustic.
