Det Stora Monstret is the alias of Jacob Johansson, and the monster in question is mostly the one we carry around ourselves: cowardice, longing, the slow collapse of a home.
The self-titled debut arrived in January 2014, produced by Johansson with Filip Leyman (Anna von Hausswolff) and Christoffer Berg (Fever Ray, The Knife). Gaffa called it the Swedish debut of the year, the single Kolibrins vingar went straight onto P3, and the album was nominated for both the Gaffa Award and Manifest. The follow-up, En drömd plats, went further in: escape attempts, a funeral wake, infatuation tipping into obsession, the deeply personal held up against something global and existential. Then came years of silence. Johansson broke it with Vi glider isär, a pop ballad written from inside a relationship and a home coming apart, with strings arranged by Fläskkvartetten and production by Mattias Glavå (Broder Daniel, Håkan Hellström, Dungen) and Nils Krogh at Kungsten Studios in Gothenburg. It opened the album Tänder på påhittade meningar med livet, released on Suncave Recordings ten years after the debut. The lyrics are in Swedish. The weight translates on its own. Now Johansson brings a new live band to Inkonst for the first time. Music for anyone who still misses Kent.
