Museums collect and preserve, research and communicate. Objects and artworks from the collection are therefore often kept in storage, out of public view. In the series Out of Storage, we change that. A curator at Kode selects items from storage for one evening and presents a lecture based on them.
This evening, you will gain insight into the development of Norwegian glass between 1945 and 1970, and learn more about the phenomenon of K-glass, as well as beloved tableware designs such as Siri and Grønland.
Scandinavian Design from Hadeland – Hadeland Glass 1950–1970
In recent years, Norwegian post-war glass has become increasingly popular among collectors and retro enthusiasts.
After the Second World War, a new generation of designers revitalised Norwegian glass art. This included well-known names such as Willy Johansson, Herman Bongard and Arne Jon Jutrem. Hadeland’s production during this period reflected the aesthetic ideals of the Scandinavian Design movement, while also challenging contemporary ideas about what glass could be.
The lecture will be given by Morten Spjøtvold, former curator of glass, metal and furniture at Kode, and will last approximately 40 minutes.
