Woodcut Printmaking Course with artist Solvor Holan – the Puzzle Technique
Join artist Solvor Holan for a woodcut printmaking course using the puzzle technique. This method of woodcut printmaking allows for exciting visual expressions and colourful combinations.
In the most common method of multi-coloured woodcuts, a separate block is used for each colour in the image. With the puzzle technique, however, you work as Edvard Munch did: the wooden block is cut into separate pieces using a fret saw, allowing each section to be inked in different colours. The pieces are then reassembled like a puzzle before printing.
The method involves cutting the wooden block into smaller, separate pieces. Each piece is inked individually in different colours, carefully reassembled like a puzzle, and printed in a single operation.
The course will take place over three evenings: 18 November, 25 November and 2 December, from 17:00 to 20:00.
Course schedule:
Day 1: Introduction to the technique, choosing a motif and dividing the wooden block before cutting.
Day 2: Applying printing ink and printing on paper.
Day 3: Printing and review.
Maximum number of participants: 12
Venue: The Workshop at Permanenten
Price: NOK 1,499
