Sacred Harvest – Preserving Wirikuta with Don Rafa

This is a donation-based Fundraiser, all proceeds go to the Wirikuta Preservation Project.

We invite you to a special evening with Marakame Don Rafael Pizano (Don Rafa), a revered Wixárika elder and healer. For over 50 years, Don Rafa has walked the ancient pilgrimage routes of his people, carrying songs, prayers, and ancestral wisdom. Today he serves as a guardian of the Wirikuta Preservation Project, protecting one of the most sacred landscapes of Mexico against threats from mining, industrial agriculture, and unregulated tourism.

The Wixárika Nation (Huichol people) are the original guardians of the sacred cactus hikuri (peyote) and protectors of the desert of Wirikuta, where it grows wild. Their culture holds an unbroken lineage of ancestral knowledge, never broken by colonialism. At the heart of their healing traditions stand the Marakames — healers who speak the language of fire, diagnose illness and trauma, and keep balance between the human and the spirit world after a lifetime of deep training and pilgrimage. To learn from them is a rare honor.

This evening is hosted by Baba Asia, who will guide the gathering and offer saffron tea as we share in community.
