Birkebeinerspelet Returns in February 2027!
After several years of silence, the spectacular outdoor production returns to Mjøsparken in Brumunddal. Set against the breathtaking backdrop of the lake Mjøsa, the audience is invited into a epic winteradventure filled with dramatic scenes, impossible suspense and unforgettable moments.
The year is 1205. Norway is torn apart by civil war, and the newborn heir to the throne, Håkon Håkonsson, must be brought to safety. Birkebeiner Play tells the legendary story of courage, sacrifice and determination as a small group of warriors risk everything to protect the child who would one day unite the kingdom.
Featuring professional actors, horse riders, stunt performers, fight choreographers and a large local ensemble, the arena comes alive with galloping horses, blazing torches, powerful battle scenes and live music. Together, they create an immersive theatre experience under the open winter sky.
Based on the screenplay written by Ravn Lanesskog for Nils Gaup’s acclaimed film The Last King (Birkebeinerne), the production returns in a new format and at a new venue, combining historical drama with spectacular outdoor theatre.
Birkebeinerspelet is an unforgettable experience for the whole family (10+) and for anyone who wants to experience Norwegian history, compelling storytelling and the magic of winter brought to life on stage.
