EHM is a Copenhagen-based free- improv trio, featuring Norwegian trumpeter Erik Kimestad, Swedish guitarist Henrik Olsson and Brazilian vocal artist Marcela Lucatelli, focusing on intense, dense and brutal sonic collisions that require the three musicians to employ all their inventive powers and extended techniques. Nothing is obvious or predictable in the chaotic, dadaist commotion of EHM, not even the singular extended techniques of Kimestad, Olsson and Lucatelli. Lucatelli is possessed by her own juicy, wordless stories and sonic images, surprisingly sensual, ecstatic and suggestive ones. Kimestad and Olsson subvert the mysterious logic of these loose storylines and kidnap them to even wilder and absurdist terrains. EHM has already solidified its own aesthetics, extreme, raw and demanding in its sheer brutality but also imaginative and poetic aesthetics. They show us what it’s like to collapse the distance between signification and sensation. They show words where to go.
Marcela Lucatelli is one of the most innovative vocalists and composers of her generation. Born in Brazil and based in Denmark, she has gained international recognition for her boundary-pushing performances — sensuous, politically charged, and uncompromisingly original. For Lucatelli, the stage is not only a space for musical and artistic expression, but also an arena where the fight for art and life can take place. She is behind a multitude of projects and musical constellations, and her music has been performed by the Danish National Symphony Orchestra, Danish National Vocal Ensemble, Neue Vocalsolisten Stuttgart and the radical group Apartment House, to name a few.
Erik Kimestad, is one of the most inventive, chameleonic and fearless trumpet players on the European improv/jazz scene. Kimestad is known from bands such as Fra Det Onde, Andreas Røysum Ensemble, Kresten Osgood Quintet & Horse Orchestra – always leaving his unmistakable mark on any constellation he is in.
Henrik Olsson Creating on a continuum between free improvisation and experimental music, Henrik Olsson is curiously exploring and embracing the multifaceted nature of the electric guitar, with meticulous attention to the instruments timbral and textural subtleties, apt to terrorize his guitar on a nanosecond's notice.
