Embrace Your Flaws
Music, Knitting, and the Courage to Be Vulnerable – An Evening with Albert Reinholdt Østergaard
Grab your knitting and get ready for an evening of free jazz, tales and a touching tribute to fragility. We guarantee a special night in the company of the award-winning bassist, composer, and knitwear designer Albert Reinholdt Østergaard.
Drawing from his own life story, Albert explores themes like bullying and self-worth. He shares how knitting has been a healing force for him, and how he sees both striking similarities and crucial differences between playing music and knitting. He weaves the free spirit of jazz into his sweaters—a concept he calls “improvisational knitting.”
Albert brings his loyal companion, the double bass, Ælse, on stage. Whether you knit or not, or love jazz or not, you’ll experience an evening that is both entertaining and deeply personal, celebrating the vulnerability and flaws we all carry and should embrace.
About Albert Reinholdt Østergaard Albert Reinholdt Østergaard began playing bass and composing music at just 12 years old. At only 24, he was named North Jutland’s Jazz Name of the Year in 2018, and has performed with legends such as drummer Ed Thigpen, saxophonist Bob Mintzer, and conga player Eliel Lazo. Albert has studied in Cuba and toured, performed, and recorded in Brazil, Italy, Spain, the Baltics, and of course Denmark.
Since 2015, Albert has designed sweaters in collaboration with Marianne Isager. After appearing on the podcast “Mens vi strikker” (“While We Knit”), he has performed with the women from the show. In 2023, Albert released his debut EP, “Comfortable Crisis.”
