The Community Presents: International Musical Meetings with Ada Rave & Gunda Gottschalk

At 20.00:

Gunda GottSchalk & Jonathan Aardestrup DUO

This will be the debut of the duo. Gunda and Jonathan met last Spring in Cologne when they played at the same venue and right after the concert started talking about making some music together. They both have existing projects with this constellation of instruments and are hyped about the sounds coming from the strings and bows. Inevitably there is some reminiscence to the history of classical music in the very sound, but here there are no strict rules and everything is made from imagination and intense listening.

Gunda Gottschalk plays improvised and contemporary music and combines her sound work with dance, theater, film, composition, visual arts, and literature. From 1994 to 2002, she played in various ensembles with Peter Kowald, including during his project 365 Tage vor ORT (365 Days on Location) and in Peter Kowald's global village Formation.

With her ensembles and as a soloist, she has performed at festivals for contemporary and improvised music throughout Europe and has made guest appearances in the USA, Canada, Russia, Mongolia, China, Myanmar, and Cameroon.

Jonathan is a Copenhagen based musician, composer, producer and organiser who has always seeked to balance his expressive output between the unconventional and the catchy. A free-spirited double bass player of improvised music who is always seeking to break new ground in denial of pointless repetition, leading to a continuous investigation of new possibilities in composed original music, improvisation, field recordings and the correlation of the three. Very active on the Copenhagen scene and across Europe for the last 10 years.

Rave - Aardestrup - Jørgens

This international trio is centered in spontaneous improvisations, sparkeling connections and suspenseful instant compositions. Ada’s instrumental approach is based on research into a wide variety of techniques, conventional and unorthodox, which allow her to create a highly personal narrative in real time composition. Drummer Peter Ole started playing the same year Ada was born and since then he played with such great musicians as Peter Brötzmann, Evan Parker, Fred Frith, John Tchicai among many others. The trio was put together by bassist Jonathan Aardestrup as a vehicle for fearless headon exploration of musical openness and high degree of abstraction.
