With international guests, genre-crossing expressions, and a warm sense of togetherness, Plan B, Inkonst and Malmö Live will be filled with bandleaders, soloists and inspiring conversations - a vibrant, inclusive, and recurring platform for jazz in all its forms. From winning the prestigious Thelonious Monk Jazz Competition to leading his celebrated group, the Blacktet, Hill blends jazz, hip-hop, R&B, and soul into a sound that is both rooted in tradition and fearlessly contemporary. His music reflects the richness of African-American creative heritage - “different branches of the same tree”.
His sound is somehow both deeply distinctive and a tour through jazz-trumpet history, evoking the high- drama stillness and space of Miles; the undeniable virtuosity of Clifford Brown and Freddie Hubbard; the
groove-savvy phrasing of Lee Morgan and Donald Byrd; and much more. Throughout his journey, he has supported and guested with a who’s who of jazz that includes Marcus Miller, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Boney James, Kurt Elling, Joe Lovano and Hill’s trailblazing Chicago peer Makaya McCraven. “A remarkably polished, immensely attractive ensemble.”
