Inkonst turns 28 this year, with twenty of those years spent inside Mazettihuset. This is not the anniversary celebration itself, but the pre-party: an opening toast before the larger festivities ahead.

To mark the occasion, we’re inviting one of the most singular bands to ever emerge from the Nordic underground. For more than three decades, Circle have occupied a territory entirely their own. Formed in Pori, Finland, in the early 1990s, the group has built a vast and ever-expanding body of work that refuses fixed coordinates. Across dozens of albums, collaborations, films, performances and side projects, Circle have continuously reshaped their language while remaining unmistakably themselves.

Their music moves through hypnotic repetition, heavy riff architecture, progressive detours, cosmic electronics and ecstatic rhythm. What emerges is not a catalogue of genres but a self-contained world, guided by curiosity, discipline and a willingness to follow ideas far beyond familiar boundaries. Recent years have seen Circle reach new audiences through their acclaimed collaboration Henki with Richard Dawson, while simultaneously extending their practice into visual and performance art. In 2025, the group presented PISTE at Pori Art Museum, a large-scale mixed-media work combining sculpture, poetry, music and conceptual performance. Called “the world's best band – all categories” by Dagens Nyheter, Circle remain one of experimental music’s great anomalies: endlessly productive, fiercely independent and still searching for unexplored routes after more than thirty-five years. Before we properly celebrate twenty years in Mazettihuset, Circle provide the ideal curtain-raiser: a band that has spent decades charting its own course and continues to find new ways forward.
