Celebrate Sweden's National Day when Sofia Vokalensemble – one of Sweden's most prominent choirs – visits Artipelag together with internationally renowned pianist Staffan Scheja.
The program offers choral classics such as Wilhelm Stenhammar's Spring Night and music by Hugo Alfvén, Edvard Grieg and Stenhammar – composers whose works uniquely capture the soul of Nordic nature.
The concert alternates between choir and piano music in a sensitive interplay where Staffan Scheja's masterful interpretations meet Sofia Vokalensemble's clear and expressive sound. Together they create a holistic musical experience that is enhanced by the concert's proximity to the archipelago's nature.
Welcome to celebrate Sweden's National Day at Artipelag!
Sofia Vokalensemble was formed in 1995 by Bengt Ollén, who is still the choir's committed conductor. The choir's performances are characterized by a warm, lyrical Swedish choral sound and a stage presence that has led to victories in several prestigious international competitions.
Staffan Scheja teaches piano and sits on the board of the Lilla Akademien. In 1975 he received the highest prize at the Busoni Competition and has since performed all over the world as a soloist and chamber musician. Staffan is the founder of the Gotland Chamber Music Festival and has been its artistic director for 20 years. He is currently a professor and vice-chancellor at the Royal Academy of Music, where he has supervised 15 diploma students over the years.
