GÖTEBORG! On wednesday the 11th sep we invite you to see Chicago’s finest indie quartet DEEPER, a night promising swirly guitars, hypnotic bass-lines, dreamy vocals, lush pop grooves all drenched in chorus pedals and accompanied by quirky chords. Take a listen to ‘’This Heat’’ to catch the feeling right. Opening up the night we have ZIMMER GRANDIOSO taking on Fängelsets stage for the first time, a superroup consisting of Gothenburgs loveliest indie-musicians, capsulating the sound of a summer breeze.
Revival & Fängelset presents:
DEEPER - US
You can’t get Deeper if you’re standing still. That’s intentional, says the Chicago quartet’s Nic Gohl. “Does it feel good when you’re listening to this song? Does your body want to move with it?” These are the questions he asked himself as he and bandmates Shiraz Bhatti, Drew McBride, and Kevin Fairbairn were writing and recording Careful!, their third record and Sub Pop debut. “I wanted these to be interesting songs, but in a way where a two-year-old would vibe out to it,” Gohl adds. “It’s pop music, basically.”
That “basically” qualifier is working pretty hard, as fans of 2020’s Auto-Pain might suppose. Auto-Pain was an album of thick brutalist architecture, full of straight lines and sharp angles, making hard shapes strong enough to carry a heavy thematic burden. On Careful!, they’re reshaping the facades and splashing color, not reimagining their sound so much as testing its limits. There are synth experiments, there are moments of nauseatingly powerful darkwave and coldbeat. There are massive rock’n’roll songs that you can imagine 10,000 people singing along to in some beautiful outdoor setting. There is a remarkably moving love song. Is there pop? There’s some pop, yes, a wiry bit of Cars-esque neon called “Everynight.” Look around the right corners, and you might see some of the old buildings peeking through, too, but in this context—on a song like “Sub,” say, a song that began life as a slow and dark prog jam but is now an elegantly cresting wave of post-punk—they feel more sophisticated, lit up in the cold, bright glow of Television.
IN CASH - SWE Since the winter of 2019 IN CA$Hs music has echoed out from the industial areas of Högsbo and now reached the streets of Gothenburg. These young musicians found eachother while sharing the same school and they have merged their own thing combining influences from grunge, new wave, hip hop and modern punkrock to name a few, to create their aggressive, loud, yet humouristic tunes. During the fall of 2022 they released their debut-EP, Basement Sessions and since then they've followed up with some really forward-thinking singles
ZIMMER GRANDIOSO - SWE With 90's indie and alternative rock as a stable foundation, Gothenburg-based ZimmerGrandioso manages tofloat between, andfind inspiration in, several different genres, eras andexpressions. Pop, rock and slacker, not to mention real rock n roll sax and carefully selected (butsignificant) touches of Jethro Tullflutes. That listeners hear influences such as The MagneticFields, Daniel Romano, Twin Peaks and others is obvious, but beneath the surface there’s moreto be discovered. The songs are simple but well thought out. They’re melodious but edgy at the same time. It'sindie and alternative, and Zimmer Grandioso works just as well at the pre-party and in the clubsas they do in the wee hours. Thefirst EPZimmer Style IIwas released in September 2023 and isintelligently followed up withZimmer Style IVin May 2024, with the singlefamous chinese shortstoriestaking the lead. Not all bands are formed around music. It may be a bit diffuse, but starting a band based on thefeeling "I wish this day would never end" is done far too rarely. It’s not for nothing that ZimmerGrandioso was formed during a rare, really good Swedish summer day.
