Rättviks Kultursällskap presents Astrid Lindgren's "That boy Emil” in a historic setting at Rättvik's Gammelgård, close to the center of Rättvik. The old log walls compose parts of our scenery and give a warm farm ambiance to the story. Georg Riedel's original music meets a new script by Johan Joliden based on Astrid Lindgren's timeless books.

There may never have been a kid who caused more mischief than that boy, Emil. After each mischievous act, Emil sat in the ”carpenter's shed" and carved himself a wooden figure. He ended up with 369 figures. While we can't delve into each misadventure, you will get to witness firsthand how best to get little boys out of soup bowls, learn where not to place a rat trap, and come along to an auction.

Astrid's story “That boy Emil” is a delightful family play for audiences of all ages.

At Gammelgården, you can experience idyllic Dalarna in the traditional craftsmanship from as early as the 13th century. Together with the new scenography’s 20th century environment, you can take part in farming society from mixed centuries.

The parking lot is located at Stiernhööksgymnasiet, Masvägen 15 Rättvik, a 600 meter walk from the venue along the old church stables. There is accessible parking available right next to the venue.

TO THINK ABOUT: The performance takes place outdoors with an open grandstand - We therefore recommend dressing appropriately for the weather. Opt for a cap to shield from the sun and rainwear instead of an umbrella to ensure the view is not obstructed for the rest of the audience. Caps and rain ponchos are available for purchase on-site, as well as refreshments and fika. Children up to 2 years old do not need a ticket provided they do not occupy their own seat. Strollers are to be placed behind the audience area for safety reasons. Dogs are not recommended.

Entrance: 16:15 Start: 17:00 The performance is about 2h long, including a break. The venue has no recommended age limit.
