Joanna Rubin Dranger won the 2023 Nordic Council Literature Prize for her animated documentary novel Remember Us, in which she digs into the history of her Jewish family and seeks explanations for the silence that surrounded it. What actually happened to the relatives who "disappeared" during the Second World War?

The book consists of six different stories that are woven into each other, and shows Jewish life and human destinies across several continents for more than a century. Illustrations are interspersed with text, photos and documents, and depict partly her own family story, partly what happened in Europe and the world at large during the Second World War.

With her unique ability to simply and powerfully portray our existence, Joanna Rubin Dranger tells us about the most difficult things in a way that both affects us and gives us new insights. She writes about the family, the Holocaust, being cut off from its history and about our shared responsibility to carry on the lives of the silenced. Here is the opportunity to hear her talk about her book and the work behind it. In Swedish.
